Islands Expressway

Prince will demolish and replace two bridges over the Wilmington River in Savannah, Georgia. The new bridges will have a 240-foot continuous center span and will use post tensioning from pier to pier to allow larger boats to navigate the 170-foot wide waterway. The project involves:

• Replacing two 1,400-foot bridges with two 1,900-foot bridges
• Driving 30-inch-diameter piles as deep as 100 feet into the riverbed
• Building 117,000 pounds of cast-in-place seal slabs
• Installing 800,000 pounds of cast-in-place footing

Work will be planned around the river’s tides, which can change water levels by nearly 8 feet during a single work shift.
