Prince commenced construction on the $25.5 million contract on October 16, 2006. The project is located in east Manatee County and consists of widening 2.5 miles of SR 64 from two lanes to four lanes. Prince’s work will result in the elimination of major traffic congestion throughout this portion of roadway, which currently sees an average of 15,000 vehicles daily. Phase one of the project is under construction and includes the South side of SR 64 from Lakewood Ranch Boulevard to Lorraine Road. Phase two will consist of the construction of the North side of the roadway and phase three will include the construction of the roadway’s median.

Prince has currently completed all clearing for the project, installed 80% of the shell base material for phase one and installed two box culverts.

According to Daniel Walker, Project Superintendent, Prince finished the installation of a 10’ x 12’ triple barrel culvert and a 5’x10’ double barrel culvert one and a half months ahead of schedule.

“The installation of both culverts, ahead of schedule, enabled Prince to tie in the road work quicker and proceed with the next phases of construction earlier than anticipated”, said Walker.

Prince also accomplished a task which will allow the pipe crews to tie the 42” water main into the existing 36” water main. Prince propelled a plastic/spongy bullet, also known as the “pig”, through the pipe in order to clear it of all sediment. This is the first time Prince has performed this task on this large a water main. The pig will clear 10,100 feet of pipe in two separate areas from Rye Road westward for 7,900 feet and from Lorraine road eastward for 2,200 feet.

Prince looks forward to completing this project on time and within budget.
