Tampa, FL, March 27, 2015 – Prince was the successful bidder on the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFEA) project to construct SR 429 (Wekiva Parkway) from US 441 to north of Ponkan Road in Orange County, Florida. During this 660-day project, Prince will construct 2.13 miles of new limited-access roadway from south of the connector road (between US 441 and Plymouth Sorrento Road) to just south of Ponkan Road. Work includes constructing a northbound on-ramp and a southbound off-ramp at the connector road, as well as constructing bridges over the connector road, Southfork Drive, Yothers Road, Ponkan Road and other locations. The bridge over the connector road will be constructed using a precast, post tension-ed steel girder U-beam design. Drainage, lighting, signage, pavement markings, utilities, and an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is also part in the work.
The CFEA is receiving a loan from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration under the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program to construct this project. According to the CFEA, the project was “Authorized in 2004 by the Wekiva Parkway and Protection Act (Chapter 369, Part III, F.S.) <and> has been heralded as a shining example for transportation planning through an environmentally sensitive area. Development of the Wekiva Parkway has included setting aside more than 3,400 acres of land for conservation. The parkway also will include numerous wildlife bridges, and will be largely elevated to reduce accidents between vehicles and wildlife.” To read more about the Wekiva Project, click here.
