Job Summary

The equipment manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the operations of all equipment for effective maintenance and repair programs, equipment safety programs and equipment use on company job sites. The equipment manager acts as a technical advisor on all equipment issues and assists the management team with equipment budgets and potential equipment purchases.

 

Job Description

  • Oversight and management of equipment department personnel
  • Provide positive safety leadership to equipment department
  • Direct and coordinate activities of equipment department personnel to ensure efficiency in operations within prescribed annual budget
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of capitalized equipment records and procedures for all equipment
  • Understand contractual documents relating to equipment purchases and finance, i.e. completeness or inadequacies
  • Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems related to equipment and vehicles
  • Work closely with Company employees, project supervisors, and executives to fulfill commitments regarding equipment needs.
  • Coordinate resource use with project management teams
  • Coordinate material purchases to assure that vendor agreements are prepared accurately
  • Develop and maintain business relationships and manage subcontractor, client/owner, engineers, JV partner(s)
  • Ability to confidently negotiate any and all matters on behalf of the Company as they relate to equipment (contracts, purchase/lease/rental agreements, maintenance/service agreements, etc.)
  • Monitor and tracks equipment on a daily basis by job site, type and use
  • Inspects facility’s equipment on a regular basis to determine proper inventory, utilization, maintenance, and maximize equipment profitability and utilization, as well as compliance with company safety policies
  • Initiate and prepares purchase orders in accordance with company policy and the accounting system for rental equipment as required; tracks each piece of rented equipment by job site and job number
  • Manage and direct effective and timely preventative, maintenance and repair programs and oversee the generation of purchase orders for repairs or required maintenance
  • Supervise the purchase of small tools and any supplies needed for the equipment or work crews
  • Provide project management with a monthly budget analysis of rentals and repairs
  • Work with controller to prepare month-end accruals reports
  • Reconcile vendor accounts at the end of the month
  • Coordinate training sessions for new equipment with the operators as needed
  • Coordinate updating DMV registration and current insurance
  • Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited four-year college or university
  • At least ten (10) of related experience; highway construction and management experienced required
  • Experience with earth moving equipment, hydraulic and crawler cranes, pile driving equipment, concrete slip form, and bridgework
  • Knowledge and experience of federal, state, and local regulations
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with HeavyJob and HeavyBid is preferred
  • Ability to effectively make well-informed and sound decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to deal at all functional levels
  • High sense of urgency and deadline driven; goal oriented with ability to prioritize
  • Strong Interpersonal skills – able to lead diverse teams and persuade people at all organizational levels; able to work well in a group environment and foster a team approach
  • Exceptionally organized and meticulously detail oriented
  • Flexibility to travel as necessary
